Subrogation
Sometimes a covered person is hospitalized or disabled as a result of someone
else's negligence or wrongdoing. After your plan pays a covered person's
hospital claim caused by someone else's negligence or wrongdoing, your plan can
be reimbursed by legally seeking restitution from the person who caused the
covered person's injury. This process is called subrogation.
USAble Life group health insurance division uses the services of
Healthcare Recoveries, Inc. (HRI) to recover claim dollars paid out by
your plan to a covered person who has been wrongfully injured by someone else.
HRI recovers these dollars from the responsible party's insurance company.
USAble Life group health insurance division uses this reimbursement to reduce claims costs for its
client groups.
NOTE: Subrogation is not the same as coordination
of benefits.
